How nice, starting the week with some happy news: Deddou is giving a POP UP YOGA Retreat "Rejuvenate your body and spirit". In her column she tells us all about how she discovered the beautiful place, what you can expect and how it all came together...
It was through a lucky coincidence, that I flew to Goa instead of Hydrabad on the 4th January 2012. My training in Hydrabad was delayed and I spontaneously decided to use these 2 weeks to relax and unwind from the past few exhausting months in an Ayurvedic Clinic I had discovered online. Little did I know that I was on the way to my little paradise, a place I would return to over and over again.
It is therefore both an honor and a dream come true to share this special place, my little paradise island, with everybody who decides to join me for the Yoga and Ayurveda Retreat from the 26th September to the 2nd October. So, let me try and give you a mental picture of what is waiting for you during this week of Yoga and Ayurveda with me at Devaaya in Goa:
Imagine a sleepy village in the middle of a green, lush landscape, surrounded by water. Everything is alive: the hummingbirds are sipping nectar from exotic flowers, the air is humid and filled with light and pleasant water dust. The smell in the air is a mixture of trees breathing, Ayurvedic spices and a sweet smell of Frangipani flowers.
You rise up with the sun to the sound of soft Sanskrit chants in the background. Everything is still drunk with sleep and you stroll to the little wooden hut, where all guests do a morning kriya to get ready for the day. Once your senses are open and awake, you find your way to the river banks where we will flow through a vigorous, yet soft yoga morning practice. After the 90min class you are fully present and hear your belly calling for a delicious breakfast. A few minutes later you will find yourself seated on the deck of a simple building overlooking the Divar River. In front of you a plate filled with healthy and nutritious freshly prepared ayurvedic food.
Now everybody’s day will take a different route. You might see your Ayurvedic doctor first, or you might have some time to read a book and relax. On another day you might go straight to your personalized ayurvedic treatment and get pampered from head to toe. We will all meet again next to the cooling swimming pool for a light lunch in the middle of the day. The next few hours in the afternoon will be a reprise of your easy and revitalizing morning program. That means, some more free time to read, walk and rest, only to be interrupted by a rejuvenating massage treatment or a dip into the pool.
At around 4pm our yoga group will meet again to deepen our yoga practice in a gentle way. We will dive into the softer, more restorative aspects of yoga, incorporating breath work, energetic practices and guided meditations or yoga nidra exercises. These selected practices will help you to understand yoga from the inside out and rejuvenate your body and mind on a deep level.
As the sun slowly starts setting, a soft breeze from the river banks caresses your skin as our group sits around a big table sharing impressions of the day, indulging in a light dinner. You stay as long as you want before you withdraw to snuggle up in your white bed sheets, where after only a few seconds you drift off into a deep and peaceful sleep.
